1.Lanterns in Huangqiling Mountain
Huangqi Mountain is located at the intersection of Dongguan Avenue and Middle Dongcheng Road, and the peak has an altitude of 189 meters. The Park covers 7 square kilometers, and has a number of well-known ancient spots such as the lantern at the peak and the ancient temple. Newer attractions of the park include Qifeng Park Square, the Gate, and Qifeng Lake.Huangqi Mountain has been a famous place for outings, mountain climbing and worship since the Tang Dynasty. The lantern hanging at the top of Huangqi Mountain is first of the Dongguan Eight Ancient Sceneries. According to ancient legend, there was once a Banyan tree at the top of the mountain that attracted fireflies, making it look like a huge lantern at night, according to ancient legend. Now a huge lantern several meters high has been built at the top and can be seen from many parts of Dongguan at night.
Shiqiao Bridge
Shiqiao Bridge was originally named De’an Bridge in the Northern Song Dynasty, and its surrounding areas were the busiest places in Guancheng (the name for Dongguan during that era). Lined by stalls and tea shops, Shiqiao Road and Xizheng Road are the oldest shopping streets and the business center in Guancheng. In ancient times, the bridge and its parallel streets were packed with people, while the river carrying passing boats ran quietly through, creating a pretty picture for all passersby. Sound of the waves could be heard on the banks especially in Spring.
Pengdong Water Curtain
Shuilian Mountain was originally known as Pengdong Mountain and stretches for several kilometers. The Penggong building (the home of a legendary Ancient) was hidden here. There is also a clear spring in the mountains, with a waterfall fall coming down several dozen feet from the top. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, many famous poets have visited the site and inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Pengdong Water Curtain.
4.Baoshan Mountain
Baoshan Mountain is located between Zhangmutou and the Huangjiang River, and was called Lvshan Mountain in ancient times. In the past, people processed silver here, and renamed it to Baoshan Mountain. It is known for its waterfalls. Poets wrote about the water falling into the stones and splashes out, forming a beautiful shape which looks like a lotus.
5.Fenghuangtai Platform
In legends the base of Daojia Mountian’s Fenghuangtai was made from three layers of red stone, at 30 feet high and 20 feet long, and a phoenix would sing there every morning. Legend also has it that phoenix grass grew in the mountains, which attracted the phoenix. In the Song Dynasty, there was a Daoist temple at the peak, with a pagoda on the side, where all students who passed the testing system for civil service will have their names on the monument. About 400 years ago, the Phoenix Book Society was founded by Ming scholars here. People of Dongguan believe that the Society is the pulse and symbol of the Dongguan poetry.
6.A Misty Juehua
Located in Zhongtang Doulang, construction of the Juehua Temple began in the Song Dynasty. It took more than 200 years to complete the construction until the Ming Dynasty. Zhongtang government planned to spend 100 million RMB to rebuild Juehua Temple in the original location, occupying 58 acres and acting as a home to more than 100 monks. Current plans are for it to become a religious site, a Buddhist shrine and a place for leisure in Dongguan.
7.The Jingkang Mirage
The Jingkang Mirage is located in Humen. According to records, “Mirages are often seen in Jingkang bay . Between dusk and nightfall, the water suddenly turns red, and it looks like many sea creatures are walking out with lanterns. The sounds of a market can be heard until dawn.” The Jingkang mirages are unique because, unlike Qingzhou, it is seen at night. Since the ancients could not explain the phenomenon, some believed that there was a coral market, which some believed previously it was a sunken land.
Haiyue sail in the well
In Chongkou, Houjie, there is a rock at Jinniu Mountain called Xieke (Crab Shell) Rock. There are steep cliffs and bamboo forests, and the scenery is beautiful. In ancient times, a Zen master passing by fell in love with the scenery and decided to set up a temple there named Haiyue. The Haiyue legend tells of a couple who were separated not long after marriage. Every day, the wife would come to the Xieke Rock and wait for her husband to return. One day, she came to the well beside the rock for water, and saw in the reflection a returning ship with her husband. Running to the port, she saw he had indeed returned. The two believed that the gods had helped them.
